Canoeing & Kayaking

kayaking.jpgCanoeing and kayaking are great outdoor activities, especially at our base in the Lake District. Eclipse have both a fleet of open “Canadian” canoes as well as closed cockpit kayaks.

Paddling a kayak is a great individual challenge activity and canoes are commonly used as a tandem craft requiring a good level of communication and team work. However with a little instruction canoes are fantastic, stable and a very manouverable solo vessel. Eclipse can provide starter sessions for people who have never been in a boat before, skills training for those who have spent a little time on the water and want to improve their paddling. We can also provide river trips for those who have spent some time on flat water and want to move on to the next level. Whatever your preference or level of ability be prepared for a physical, wet and fun day.

Examples of canoe and kayak activities

Beginner
If it’s your first time in a boat then spending half a day in one of the sheltered bays around our base at Cragwood engaging in skills and focused games is a great introduction to paddle sports.

Intermediate
For those of you who have done some canoeing or kayaking before or who would like a more committing challenge we can journey on the Lake, maybe stopping off on a island for lunch.

Advanced
If you want to move on from flat water to paddling moving water then Eclipse can help you undertake your first river trip (weather dependent). Two rivers that Eclipse commonly run are the lower section of the Brathay and the Lune. Both trips offer the chance to negotiate rapids, break in and out of eddys and in higher water surf waves.
